Alex took over Alan's mansion and spent her energy trying to locate her long-lost son. With Ross's help, Alex was finally reunited with her son, a street-wise gang leader who called himself Lujack. (Well, have you ever heard of a hood calling himself Brandon Luvonaczek?)
Lujack had gotten a job at Tony Reardon's bar, Company, and his contact with Beth Raines brought out a much more sensitive side to his character. Beth encouraged him to leave the Galahads, but Lujack found it difficult to break with the gang, considering them family. There there was his ex-girlfriend Darcy, who had a fog-horn voice and all the charm of a Heavy Metal nightmare. Darcy was violently jealous of Lujack's attention to Beth, and when Lujack tried to break with the gang, Darcy went berserk, holding Beth, Lujack and Alexandra hostage at Cedars Hospital. After Darcy shot some of the hospital riff-raff, Lujack got her to throw down the gun. Darcy was committed to a mental hospital, and Lujack got the rest of the Galahads jobs at Spalding Enterprises with the grudging approval of his mother.
Lujack also planed a future with Beth Raines, who had given up on Phillip once and, er, for a while. Phillip, who had seemed to take a page from his father's book, was unable to accept the loss of Beth and plotted to sabotage Lujack's new restaurant. He hired small-time thug Andy Ferris to create problems so the restaurant wouldn't pass the inspection it needed to open. Without Phillip's assent, Andy foolishly set up an explosion, which ended up blinding Beth. Lujack was found criminally negligent, and Beth ironically turned to Phillip for support.
But Phillip had gotten himself into a pickle with the beautiful, scheming India von Halkein, Alex's stepdaughter. India bought a tape recording of Phillip with Andy Ferris, and was able to blackmail Phillip into marrying her. India and Phillip.s marriage was a farce, but it had its lusty moments, and they had a begruding respect for each other's dark side.
Beth got her sight back, and she and Lujack tracked Andy Ferris down. Andy confessed and warned them that Alex was covering for Phillip's partial responsibility in the blast. Beth and Lujack forgave Andy on the condition he would help them get a public confession from Phillip at Alexandra's Valentine's Day party. Andy brought a copy of the incriminating tape to the party, but he seemed nervous and unwilling to go through with the plan. Lujack lost his temper and screamed that if Andy did not proceed, Lujack would kill him. Suddenly, the lights went out and a gunshot was heard. Lujack was arrested and convicted for Andy's murder.
After Lujack's conviction, it seemed that India was the iller, since she had managed to sneak the tape out of Alex's home despite a police search. But the real killer turned out to be gentle, mild-mannered Floyd Parker, who had lost his chance to start over. He had not forgiven Andy for blowing up the club and blinding Beth, whom Floyd secretly adored. Floyd kidnapped India and tried to force India to sign a confession, but India was rescued and Floyd was put behind bars. Lujack was set free, but he barely spoke to his mother, since she had been so anxious to protect Phillip and the Spaulding name and reputation.
(a few pages later) Beth and Jackson were able to save Billy when the realized the Lujack's musical video held the key. Lujack had seen the Infinity symbol in the warehouse at Delilah records, a subsidiary of Sampson Enterprises. And Beth and Jackson decided to use the symbol as a motif throughout the video, unaware of the harm it would produce. Eventually, Lujack realized the connection between David Preston and Infinity. The organization was cornered, and kidnapped Beth and Jackson. Lujack rescued Beth, but a boiler aboard the Infinity ship exploded. Close to dying at the hospital, Lujack bade a sweet good-bye to his mother and Beth, then passed away.
